In Cernobbio, on the shores of the most romantic lake in the world, is Villa d’Este. More a destination than a hotel, more a tradition than an ancient palazzo, more than a place: a legend. At Villa d’Este everything is an invitation to live the dolce vita at the foot of the Italian Alps near the Italian silk capital Como, three-quarters of an hour from Milan. Built in 1568 as a summer residence of Tolomeo Gallio, a rich Cardinal with a passion for art, Villa d’Este remained the property of the family for more than two centuries. It was purchased in 1815 by Caroline of Brunswick, Princess of Wales, and wife of King George IV of England. Transformed into a luxury hotel in 1873 it became a privileged holiday resort for the great European aristocracy and an unmissable stop on the Grand Tour. Villa d’Este is undoubtedly synonymous with the hotel experience by having exceptional service and attentive staff to meet the most demanding needs of clients such as: King Albert of Belgium, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Queen Sonja of Norway, Woody Allen.
