The Ghisallo Pass overlooking the Lecco branch of Lake Como, is one of the most beautiful and suggestive places in Lario and is well-known all over the world, especially by cycling enthusiasts. Near the top is the Museum of Cycling, visited each year by thousands of sportspeople who cycle up the pass to visit the sanctuary next to the museum that dates back to the seventeenth century. The sanctuary houses a painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary or Madonna del Ghisallo who was proclaimed by Pope Pius XII as the patron saint of cyclists. The museum promotes cycling but is not exclusively dedicated to the bicycle. Using spontaneous donations to the sanctuary made by enthusiasts, sports associations and champions from various times, the Museum of Cycling at Madonna del Ghisallo, collects, preserves and enhances the history of this technical machine, the sport of cycling and its participants, and the major events that contributed to the history of cycling.
