Garlate Italia
The Abegg Silk Museum, takes its name from the family of Swiss industrialists who in 1953, created this structure to pass on the tools created to operate in the silk industry to workers and scholars. It is located in a former mill dating back to 1700, in the splendid water front setting of Lake Garlate, surrounded by a mulberry garden and exhibits discoveries, inventions and machines for the production of silk from the silkworm to silk fabrics, an activity that has characterised this area for a long time. The museum was donated to the City of Garlate in 1976 and still retains a rich collection of machines that explain, following the exhibition itinerary, the various production stages: from the breeding of silkworms and cocoon treatment to the reeling of silk filaments. The museum also houses a space dedicated to weaving, has interactive workshops and teaching activities provided by expert trainers.
