the history of silk on display at the Museum in Como
The Educational Silk Museum was created in 1985 on the initiative of Class ‘27 in collaboration with the Alumni of the School “P. Carcano”; two associations in Como who worked to recover relics from the silk textile factories in the town. This institution is a place of excellence and houses the historical memory of Como’s silk industry. The Museum opened to the public in 1990, it occupies about 1200 square meters of space. The exhibition provides a historical and educational reconstruction of the working of silk. The exhibits offer visitors a chance to learn about the production following the various working phases. Machineries are on display in the Silk Educational Museum thanks to donation. In some cases, they have also been restored bringing them back to life. The Museum offers itineraries ad hoc for school, groups, families with children; college students can undertake practical work before or after graduation.
